Stillman's monthly release schedule continues (by the skin of his teeth) with May's release of 'Storm Coming'.
It's kind of a cross between Pink Floyd, Cream and Funkadelic. It's got like, you know, spacy bits mixed up with some cool bluesy riffs and a funky arse-shaking bit in the middle.
Hmmmm, look, best if you go and listen to 'Storm Coming' for yourselves..
The new Stillman album will be released song by song as each is finished here on the latest release page.
The songs will be released onto iTunes, Amazon Digital and the usual suspects as well but...
...for one month after each song is released you can download it for free!
This month's offering is a jazzy-groovy-psych affair called 'Desperate Times' featuring some lovely rich jazz guitar, loping beats and trademark Stillman harmonies.
Whaddyamean you've never heard of jazz-groove-psych?!
After being featured on the last podcast, Frans only went and played another two tracks on this week's podcast as well..
Damn, what a guy.
Reputed prog-cast The Rogues Gallery featured two tracks by Stillman this week - Chrome and Good Times.
If you have a secret hankering to cover your wellies with bacofoil or are strangely excited by three tonnes of creaking mellotron you should definitely check this podcast out.
It weighs in at a hefty average of four hours per episode, so that's about six tracks a show then. Only joking, Frans Keylard chooses a really interesting mix of the old and new, it's always compiled with good taste and it's well worth a listen.
Stillman has written two brand new tracks for two short films by independent film label Future Shorts.
Stillman and the band recorded it live in the studio against projections of the film and we videoed the
performance as they laid down the tracks.
Visit the video section to see the result, it's coooooool.
...very kindly recommended 'Blood Dark Sea' to their readers and described it as -
"lyrically adept - weaving sinewy trails amongst some darker-than-expected tales. Good stuff!"
We will hug them tearfully at The Mercury Awards when Stillman wins best album sometime in the not-so-distant future.
They say (quite correctly) -
"Stillman is one of THE MOST underrated artists around at the moment and the longer it goes on without him getting the full recognition he deserves is criminal
"

Guitar Techniques have given a glowing review to the latest Stillman album. Calling it 'well-conceived, well-constructed...very different from the current style of band albums' they gave it four out of five stars.

One of Stillman's songs is featured today on iSound as 'The Daily Download'. None but the hardcore fans had this version of 'In the Margin' from the demo which got him signed to TRL Music back in 2007. But now it's available to all, so get on over and grab it!
You can now get a sneaky preview of the sound of Stillman's next album, Blood Dark Sea, on

Amazon has now launched its digital download store and Stillman's album 'People Like a Happy Ending' is in their catalog.
Amazon's mp3s are all encoded at 256kbps (for the non-technical that means 'better than iTunes') and unlike iTunes they can be downloaded and played on any mp3 player. So, if you're
one of the hardy few still resisting anything starting with a lower-case 'i' you can get the Stillman album
without endorsing Apple's quest for beautifully ergonomic global domination.
Forward, Comrades!

We have added a new section under the experimental name of Photos which features some great shots
from the recent Electroacoustic Club gig at the Slaughtered Lamb.
And talking of gigs, there are two new gigs coming up in October. The first at The Star in Tufnell Park on
October 2nd and the second on October 21st at the Troubadour. See the Live section for more details.
Cue trumpets, dancing elephants and rejoicing in the street, the album is complete! So how tricky was the tricky second album on a trickiness scale of 1 - 10? 'About fifty-three, give or take' says Stillman. Now the joyous process of spending 12 hours a day locked in a sweaty room with no natural light is complete, gigs can begin! Stay tuned for dates in the upcoming few months.
Final mixes of everything are in the can. It wasn't easy but it is very, very good - Stillman and Mr Emberton can wear their pallid studio-complexions as a badge of triumph... a very pale, sickly-looking badge of triumph. 'Tis the beginning of the end of the beginning, dear reader.
Everything is tracked and down on tape, well a hard-drive anyway. And now begins the mix with Stillman in a production role this time and knob-tweaking duties left to Jason at Westbourne Studios who also tracked and played the drums.
The first drum sessions went down today and are sounding excellent. Played and recorded at Westbourne Studios by Jason Emberton, they are really bringing an organic feel to the recordings and a great dynamic. True to the d.i.y. spirit of the first album and, let's be honest, to save some cash, the files will be taken back to Stillman's studio and messed about with until he's heartily sick of them, I mean happy with them.
After much agonising over tracklistings and demoing of potential songs a final tracklisting has been put together for the next album. Recording began today with some acoustic tracks and guide vocals for a couple of likely singles.
Stillman beat off tough competition (including label-mates Urban Myth Club) to take home the prestigious 'Industry Award for Best Album' at last week's Glasswerk New Music Awards. During the nomination a technical hitch with the projector meant Stillman was unaware of his victory and still stood at the bar. But after Ex-Terrorvision frontman Tony Wright offered the award up to all-comers he put in a quick sprint to the stage and claimed his award in the nick of time. Stillman later played acoustic versions of 'In the Margin' and next single 'Jack-in-a-Box' to an appreciative audience.
Stillman has been nominated for the annual Glasswerk New Music Awards not once, not twice, but three times ladies and gentlemen, yes indeedy. He is up for nomination as Best Singer/Songwriter, Best Male and Best Album. The awards will take place on October 17th at AKA in London.
Following a chance meeting of minds on YouTube, TRL Music has collaborated with an animation collective to procure a brand new video for 'In the Margin' which you can watch here.
Stillman continued his record of playing the wettest festivals on earth
this weekend at The Secret Garden Party. In fact there was so much rain that
the tent he was playing in on Thursday threatened to collapse on him and the
audience! Undeterred he made it to the end of the set unsquished and was
rewarded by sun and blue skies, a nice moment.
He tells us that highlights of
the weekend included 'ten foot rabbits, dancing nuns / dinosaurs / polar bears,
port and crumpets, the ukelele tent, organic burgers, the best chai ever,
the Camel's Arse and an incredible beatboxer in purple pajamas'
and promises to be back next year.
Stillman played this weekend with Urban Myth Club at Glastonbury. In a packed tent he lent some folk and funk styled strummings to UMC's down-tempo chill-out. Yes, there was exactly as much mud as it looked like on TV and then some...but it was still a great weekend. So, here's to next year - sooner or later it has to be sunny right?
The album is now officially released and available from a host of online retailers including Audio Lunchbox, mTraks and eMusic. And of course it's still available on iTunes via the links on the right.
